Fourth AfD Corona Symposium: A Forum for Critics and Accountability#
The fourth Corona symposium of the AfD parliamentary group took place in the Berlin Bundestag [0]. The event, held under the motto of critically examining Corona policy and its consequences, featured numerous speakers from Germany and abroad, including doctors, scientists, lawyers, and political actors. The goal was to network “vigilant citizens against the overreaching state” and demand comprehensive accountability for the past years [0].
Introduction and Political Context#
The symposium opened with a sharp attack on the policies of the time. The speakers accused the former federal government and the parties supporting it of having “trampled on” citizens’ fundamental rights by relying on “fabricated data and incidence values.” In particular, the mandatory vaccination debate and the role of experts such as Christian Drosten and Karl Lauterbach were cited as examples of an alleged violation of the rule of law and scientific integrity.
The event also served as a platform for international exchange. Speakers connected via video included Dr. Robert Malone, a pioneer of mRNA technology, and Dutch politician Rob Roos, who became known for his confrontation with EU vaccine chief Janine Small. Both warned of the dangers of mRNA vaccines and the centralized power takeover by organizations such as the WHO.
Focus: Medical and Scientific Criticism#
A central point of the symposium was the medical and scientific accountability of Corona policy. Several doctors who were persecuted during the pandemic for issuing mask or vaccination exemption certificates described their personal fates. They reported on home searches, criminal proceedings, and the loss of their medical licenses. Dr. Walter Weber, who himself was sentenced to probation, spoke of “politically motivated” persecution and demanded full rehabilitation and economic compensation for all those affected.
Scientists such as Prof. Dr. Andreas Sönichsen and Prof. Dr. Roland Wiesendanger provided in-depth analyses of the pandemic. Sönichsen compared the official infection numbers with the data from the RKI’s Influenza Working Group and concluded that there had been no extraordinary medical situation. Wiesendanger focused on the origin of the virus and described the suppression of the laboratory theory as “the mother of all COVID scandals.” He argued that knowledge of a possible artificial origin was what politically legitimized the lockdown measures in the first place.
Legal and Political Perspectives#
The legal consequences of Corona policy were also addressed. Lawyer Carlos A. Gebauer criticized the Federal Court of Justice’s ruling that exempted doctors from liability for vaccine injuries and declared them “liability officials.” He pointed out that this could instead qualify doctors as public officials in the criminal sense, which would have to lead to increased liability.
Another topic was accountability at the state level. Representatives from Thuringia and Saxony reported on their experiences in the respective inquiry and investigative committees. While in Thuringia a joint committee with BSW and CDU was described as chaotic and not oriented toward clarification, in Saxony an AfD-led minority in the committee was described as an effective instrument for seeking truth, even though it was being blocked by the other factions.
International Networking and Outlook#
The symposium demonstrated the desire for stronger international networking among critics of Corona measures. Representatives from Austria reported on successes in accountability, such as the refund of fines and the rehabilitation of persecuted doctors. The new US administration under Trump and Kennedy was described as a strategic partner and beacon of hope for changed health policy that focuses on individual freedoms and critical review of vaccines.
The speakers agreed that accountability for the Corona era is crucial to prevent a repetition of similar measures. The demands ranged from establishing a parliamentary investigative committee at the federal level to criminal responsibility for those in charge. The message of the symposium was that resistance to the measures of that time will continue until complete clarification and justice for those affected is achieved [4].
Classification and Criticism#
The event is part of a longer-term strategy by the AfD to seek proximity to the so-called “Querdenker” scene and conspiracy-believing circles. The party has already invited leading figures of this movement to symposia in parliament several times [5]. Critics accuse the AfD of using such events to stoke conspiracy beliefs and hostility against people like Christian Drosten or Karl Lauterbach and to inflame sentiment in the election campaign [5]. The demand for court proceedings and tribunals against political opponents is seen as part of this strategy [5].
Symposium Video#
The entire symposium was recorded by the AfD parliamentary group. The video provides a comprehensive insight into the speeches and discussions of the day.
